So why are millennials still living at home, and why has this become the new normal?

Why you wish you weren’t at home Before we get into the why you’re at home, let’s first look at the reasons why you wish you weren’t.

Parents knowing more about your dating life than you’d like. A lot of people know that it’s hard out there in the job market and that many people are living at home.

According to some recent statistics, some 49% of 20-24 year olds and 21% of 25-29 year olds are still living at home… In 2012, 36% of millennials from the age of 18-21 were still living with dear old mom and pop, and 2/3 of those think it’s socially acceptable to do so.

But enough with the statistics, what’s the real deal?

So how do you have a successful love life while you’re living with your parents? I grew up in the suburbs of Boston, and have lots of high school friends who now live there, so when languishing in front of my parents’ TV grew unbearable, I’d hop in the car and go into the city.

This means that my social circle wasn’t limited to the people who actually lived in my hometown, which is key.

Some prefer to date people who have moved out on their own by 22. However, just because you live with your parents doesn’t necessarily mean you have to put dating on hold. It’s not fair to judge, saying someone who lives with their parents wants to stay there forever.

Though there are some downsides to dating someone who lives with their folks, there are also many good reasons why you should give that guy or girl, who is in the transitional phase, a chance. In fact, it’s probably not the case, even if it seems that way because they’re in their mid to late 20s.

The point is, you have your bedroom, and that’s pretty much all you have.
